Thought Piece
For anyone who wants to put the economics back into economic development, this 2019 TIPRO Report is very timely. I especially like the Methodology Section. Too many reports and reporters provide scant information on their methodology or derivation of their “facts.”
The one-eyed climate left is good at inciting fervor for concepts that could work in theory but do not actually work. Notwithstanding the lack of effectiveness of carbon taxing or cap-n-trade elsewhere, the USA is not ready to implement either. However, if the radical left replaces the conservatives in 2020, they very well might try to give us a Green New Deal.
The best example of a perfidious failure on the left is the pricing debacle of New England & it has nothing to do with RGGI. It has everything to do with the politics embedded within & surrounding a MA law, misnomered the “Global Warming Solutions Act” passed in 2007. Although a MA law, it reverberates through all six states served by a common electrical grid.
Without getting into the weeds, the said political causes all of New England and New York to experience $billions in extra charges for electricity as NGas is in very short supply during any so-called polar vortex events. The NG shortage problem is solvable but for New England politics.
TIPRO 2019 STATE OF ENERGY REPORT
The Texas Independent Producers and Royalty Owners Association (TIPRO) is pleased to publish the next edition of its “State of Energy Report,” which explores the economic impact of the nation’s oil and natural gas industry from the standpoint of employment, wages, payroll, businesses and production in 2018 with historical data for comparison purposes. TIPRO provides analysis on various economic factors throughout the year, which culminate in the association’s annual “State of Energy Report.” This publication utilizes all data sources outlined in the methodology section to provide a national perspective on oil and gas economic trends with an emphasis on Texas, the nation’s leading producer of oil and natural gas. Data contained in this report is subject to further revisions, which will be reflected in future publications as needed.
